The owners of this new 4,000 SF home,
located adjacent to a golf course in Cetral Oregon, wanted a house which
was understated when viewed from the street but which opened up at the
back to allow enjoyment of the spectacular views of the Three Sisters
mountains peaks offered by the site. In response the home was designed
to appear as a single story with a long and low sheltering roof on the
street side while at the back it expands to reveal two floors with large
stretches of glass on both allowing the owners to enjoy the views which
led them to initially select this particular lot.
The home's exterior finishes are
selected to blend with the environment. Elements such as natural stone
and stained wood columns and beams contrast with flawless concrete work
and subtly painted trim. The interior finishes adhere to the use of natural
materials with cherry wood floors and stone counter tops but also introduce
painted trim and wainscotting to create a bit more of a cottage feel.
Of particular note is the spectacular staircase with a two story window
at the landing in which the North Sister's peak is framed. Similarly the
small sunroom with it's gas burning stove and views of the golf course
feels a world away on a snowy winter day.
